Bayern has won the 2014 Breeders Cup Classic at 8/1 odds but there was some controversy due to an early break jumping out of the gate.

The top three finishers were:

Bayern
Toast of New York

California Chrome

There was an inquiry in which case Toast of New York would have been considered the winner at 16/1 odds.  Disqualifications are very rare.

Bayern is known for his “feast or famine”, meaning his unpredictability.

He has enjoyed much success over his short career, winning the Pennsylvania Derby and Haskell Invitational this year, both Grade I races.  He is owned by Kaleem Shah and trained by Bob Baffert.
Bayern’s unpredictability can be illustrated by how he was favored to win the Travers Stakes in late August only to end up finishing dead last.  He had previously finished second last at this year’s Preakness Stakes and did not contest the Belmont Stakes.

This is Bob Baffert's first ever Breeders Cup Classic win.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
