Animal Kingdom Odds to Win Triple Crown

Animal Kingdom’s odds to win the 2011 Triple Crown were set at 6/1 at BetED.com.  The payout would be $600 for every $100 bet or $60 for every $10 bet.

It’s not even worth betting on a Triple Crown not to happen as the odds are outrageous and not worth the -1000 price.

There is a reason why the odds of winning a Triple Crown are so long.  It hasn’t been done since 1978.  That’s when Affirmed won it.

Still, while there has been well over 30 years since we’ve seen a Triple Crown, it is important to note that Seattle Slew took home the Triple Crown the year prior to Affirmed.  There were actually three Triple Crowns during the 1970’s.  Strangely enough there were four Triple Crowns won during the 40’s with none during the two decades that followed.

So does Animal Kingdom have what it takes to be a Triple Crown winner?

“It takes a very consistent horse, a horse that’s improving every race,” said Kathy Ritvo, who trains Mucho Macho Man. “You have to improve every race. You can’t stay at the same level. You have to step it up each leg.”

And if Animal Kingdom can do what he did at the Derby, his odds of winning the Triple Crown might be better than 6 to 1.
