The race is for three-year-olds, run on 1 1/8 miles of dirt.  The race features a $1 million purse.

Gun Runner and Greenpointcrusader were essentially co-favorites to win at 7-2.

"He doesn’t really get excited about anything," David Fiske, racing manager of Winchell Thoroughbreds, said of Gun Runner. "You can put him in between horses or on the fence, or you can make a move with him and then slow him down a little bit. I mean, I won’t tell you he’s push-button because I’ve never ridden him, but he does seem to have a lot of tactical advantages that some horses don’t have."

Forevamo was coming in at 8-1 odds of winning Saturday’s Louisiana Stakes.

All other entrants were at 10-1 odds or greater.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
