Question marks

Collin Morikawa has withdrawn from this year's Players Championship and some gamblers are up in arms in regard to what is happening with their bets.

The policy seemed to differ across the board but Gambling911.com always encourages readers to check individual sportsbook policies

Typical rules are as follows:

  • Withdraw before tee time = refund
  • Withdraw after starting = bet usually loses

In the case of Morikawa, he  took a warmup swing on his second hole of the tournament and hurt his back, forcing a withdrawal.

In most cases, the bet is counted as a loss.

  • If the golfer has teed off in the tournament, the bet is considered action.
  • Even if the injury happens seconds later, the bet usually stands and is graded as a loss.

From CBS Sports

Morikawa took what looked like a pretty innocuous practice swing, but immediately grabbed at his lower back and called for the physio. After getting looked at and trying to stretch things out, he was ultimately forced to withdraw due to his back injury and left in a golf cart looking distraught.

DunkMan wasn't having any of it on Twitter, where he lashed out at Hard Rock Bet for not voiding his wager.

"@HardRockBet Your app is such a rip-off. Morikawa not being voided is a scum bag move! I can't wait till you're not the only option 2 bet in FL!  It will happen 1 day and I will never place another bet with hard rock."

On the other hand, TheScore.com opted to void the Morikawa bets:

"HUGE SHOUT to @theScoreBetHeIp.  Colin Morikawa (2nd TOP FAV to win the PGA Players Championship) decided to WITHDRAW out of nowhere right after the tournament started today!  So THEY voided it when others counted it as a LOSS!   That's BIG!"

Because Morikawa is the No. 5 player in the world rankings and one of the hottest players on the PGA Tour to start the 2026 season, plenty of folks would have bet on him.
