Internet Gambling Doesn't Make Maryland Ballot Initiative

Sports betting is regulated in Maryland. Online casinos are not. And the status quo will remain, at least for another year. Maryland voters in November will get to decide how congressional districts can be drawn, but they again will not be asked to decide about an expansion of online gaming. Maryland residents can walk into a licensed retail sportsbook or one of the state’s commercial casinos. They cannot, at the moment, legally play online casino games for real money anywhere in the state.

Florida State comes into their Monday night match as a +3 underdog vs. No. 9 ranked SMU. SMU QB Kevin Jennings is the biggest established star in this game. He enters 2026 with 7,709 career passing yards and 8,267 total yards, and he's 19-7 as SMU's starter. SMU notes that he's the ACC's active leader in both career passing and total offense entering the season. He's on the Maxwell, Davey O'Brien, Manning and Johnny Unitas watch lists. Florida State counters with Ashton Daniels, the former Stanford quarterback. He got his first FSU start last week against New Mexico State and finished with 202 passing yards, one TD and one interception in the Seminoles' 34-17 victory.

Fears Worsen Over Bally's Solvency

To boost its liquidity, the casino operator said in August that it was exploring selling assets, an equity sale and debt financings. Casino operator Bally’s CFO Mira Mircheva informed the company on Aug. 30 she was resigning effective Friday from the position she has held for just over a year, according to a Thursday securities filing. The company said she is leaving for “personal reasons” but will stay on to help with the transition through Sept. 30.
