Police took one man described as “suicidal” into custody shortly after 11 am following his surrender. A SWAT team also arrived at the scene and a gun was later recovered from the distressed individual’s vehicle.

Part of downtown Joliet was blocked off near the casino as police negotiators talked to the despondent man. A nearby school was also on lockdown.  The casino, however, remained open.

The man had threatened to shoot himself outside the casino.
