The American Gaming Association believes $30 billion will be bet on the NFL at "legal" sports books in 2025.  That is approximately an 8.5% increase from a revised estimate of $27.5 billion last year and is based on the national growth of wagering in 2025 and statistics from states that report football-specific betting data, according to the AGA.  Scroll down for all the top stories from the world of gambling.

In 2024, more bets were placed -- and more money was wagered -- on the NFL than any other league at sportsbook DraftKings, despite there being significantly fewer games compared to the NBA and Major League Baseball.

The NFL season kicks off Sept. 4, with the Dallas Cowboys visiting the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

  • 'Atrocious' Play, Trash Talk on Tap for This week's Barstool Poker Debut  - Barstool Sports is jumping into the livestreamed poker world this week, featuring a personality-soaked 18-person tournament on Tuesday before a heads-up clash with its founder, Dave Portnoy, on Wednesday.  The sports media company's biggest stars will sit down for the two-table tournament on Tuesday, headlined by Portnoy himself, and they'll compete for a $30K top prize. Portnoy will then take on Eric 'Barstool Nate' Nathan on Wednesday, a matchup that Nathan has been begging after for years.  "I've always wanted Barstool to get into the streamed poker arena," Nathan said on X earlier this week. "We've been close a few times so I'm pretty excited to see how it goes. We also have the best broadcast team in the biz coming for it. It's gonna be sick (if the tech works)." (More From Poker.org)

Politics

  • Here are the top GOP Contenders to Succeed Trump for President in 2028  -  Vice President Vance is the most obvious inheritor of Trump’s mantle.  Part of the reason is simple: He is the much-younger vice president to an incumbent president.  Vance is helped in connecting with Trump’s working-class supporters by his famously difficult upbringing, as memorialized in his book “Hillbilly Elegy.   The Hill has Donald Trump, Jr. in second place followed by Tom Cotton of Arkansas.  In regard to Trump, Jr, The Hill's Niall Stanage writes:  "The younger Trump for now mostly confines himself to aggressive social media posts, an equally fiery podcast called “Triggered” and tending to his business interests. One doubt around the younger Trump is whether he would bring the same negatives as his father — both men are widely loathed by liberals — without the same positives with the GOP base. Still, a second Trump candidacy would automatically have to be taken seriously."
