Hernandez-Johnson Explained and Topuria-Gaethjem Odds

The book that sets the industry standard for MMA betting markets reported yesterday that it had seen irregular betting activity on the UFC 324 bout between Michael Johnson and Alexander Hernandez.

Hernandez opened as a -300 favorite at BetOnline.ag, but the fight closed around a pick 'em Saturday. The odds started shifting toward Johnson as closely-monitored accounts placed max wagers on the underdog.

Due to the irregular activity, BetOnline suspended wagering Friday morning and later re-opened with significantly reduced limits of just 1000, and props were no longer being offered.

BetOnline.ag Brand Manager Dave Mason tweeted this Saturday morning:

“Due to some irregular betting patterns, we will be keeping the limits lower than usual on tonight's Michael Johnson vs Alex Hernandez bout. Additionally, there will not be props on this fight. IMPORTANT: This is a standard measure, not a judgement on the fight's integrity, possible injury, etc. However, to protect both the bettors and the house, we will err on the side of caution.”

Shortly after Mason's tweet, which has now attracted more than 1 million eyeballs, the fight was pulled. Various media reports initially indicated cancellation due to a Hernandez injury, but in his 324 post presser, Dana White confirmed that the bout was pulled because of the betting activity.

Dave Mason and the BetOnline oddsmakers are available for comment if you need any information surrounding this situation.

In other UFC 324 aftermath news, oddsmakers have posted a line for Justin Gaethje and Ilia Topuria, as that will likely be the next bout for the lightweight belt.

Ilia Topuria -600
