MLB blackout

A handful of Major League Baseball (MLB) teams have ended their broadcast arrangements with FanDuel Sports Network, and this means many fans and bettors will no longer be able to watch their local teams via traditionally viewing (i.e cable).

FanDuel Sports Network (formerly Bally Sports) is a group of regional sports networks in the United States owned by Main Street Sports Group (formerly Diamond Sports Group). Through its owned-and-operated networks and several other affiliates, its programming is available to all or part of at least 33 states.

The networks were known as Fox Sports Networks and operated by News Corporation for most of their existence. They were acquired by Diamond Sports from the Walt Disney Company in 2019. After the takeover, Diamond sold naming rights to the channels to casino operator Bally's Corporation, resulting in their relaunch as Bally Sports on March 31, 2021.

To date, nine MLB teams have ended their agreements with FanDuel Sports Network.  These include:

  • Atlanta Braves
  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Detroit Tigers
  • Kansas City Royals
  • Los Angeles Angels
  • Miami Marlins
  • Milwaukee Brewers
  • St. Louis Cardinals
  • Tampa Bay Rays

Atlanta is considered a top 10 market in terms of the Braves fan base, usually ranking around No. 8.  The Marlins, Rays, Reds and Royals tend to rank among the bottom ten.

Breezeline, a cable provider serving much of Miami Beach, notified subscribers of the changes.

"Major League Baseball (MLB) game coverage has changed because several teams have ended their broadcast agreements with FanDuel Sports Network. This change is affecting all TV providers, including Breezeline. Breezeline has no control over this decision by the MLB teams.

"As of March 1, MLB games won’t be aired on FanDuel Sports Network, while the Washington Nationals’ games will no longer be available on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).

"You can watch all MLB games by subscribing to MLB.TV and installing the MLB App on your smart TV or your Apple or Android devices."
