YellowHammer News has released the latest audio tapes of Alabama’s embattled governor Robert Bentley, this time alleging that “casino gambling people” were the one’s responsible for spreading rumors of an affair he was having with his then senior political advisor Rebekah Mason, a married mother of three.

In April, the Governor asked for forgiveness from God without disclosing what he was asking forgiveness for.

"I've asked God to forgive me because that's the most important thing," Bentley said while on a tour of the Limestone Correction Facility in Harvest, Ala. "I want back in His fellowship. And so I asked God to forgive me."

Bentley had denied the affair rumors ever since he estranged wife of many years asked for a divorce at the end of 2015.

“First of all let me say this,” the governor begins. “There is no affair going on, okay? That’s one thing. Now, I do have some close advisors. Rebekah is one of my close advisors. And unfortunately there has been jealousy on the part of my wife. But I can tell you that we’re not having an affair.”

Gov. Bentley went on to assert that an elaborate PR campaign was being waged against him, led by gambling interests.

“I read some of that stuff… It’s just an avalanche,” he said.

“This is a slimy guy,” he added with regard to one of the bloggers that was helping to spread the news. “Casino gambling people are feeding this story.”

The reason gambling interests were fueling the affair rumors, Gov. Bentley explained, was because “they know I’m anti-gambling.”

“These guys, let me tell you what they’re most concerned about. They’re most concerned about a lottery and me signing a compact with the [Poarch Band of Creek] Indians,” said the governor. “That’s what they’re concerned about… That is the loaded gun right there. And they will do anything because these guys are poised to make hundreds of millions of dollars.”

More specifically, Bentley claims, casino interests did not want him passing new tax initiatives that would negatively impact their respective businesses.

“I’m not saying that my divorce was totally caused by that but some of it was because they fed my wife [this stuff],” he told Rep. Farley. “This is not as simple as people think… There is a concerted effort out there to not pass any taxes. Not passing any taxes means that there has to be a solution because we’re going to have to cut government, and that’s going to make people unhappy. So how do you solve all this without raising taxes?”
