CoolCat Casino, Palace of Chance, XBet Casino the Latest to be Told Stop Doing Business in Michigan

The Michigan Gaming Control Board announced it has issued nine more cease-and-desist notices to companies operating online casinos in the state. However, it was not immediately clear if any or all were directly targeting residents of the state.

The letters were sent out to WagerWeb, BetAnySports, CoolCat Casino, BetDSI, GoGo Gold, My Dreams Casino, Nonstop Casino, Palace Chance and XBet Casino.

The MGCB did not discriminate as the selected targets include both sweepstakes casinos and real money online casinos. The regulator has become the most protective in the United States regulated online gambling sector.

In the case of CoolCat Casino, that site claims to offer players "tons of the best free online casino games to choose from! With over 220+ amazing games at your fingertips, our players never lack choices! You can play all your old favorites and explore new casino games along the way! You can choose to play alone or with other players, enter one of our tournaments, or play to win one of our huge progressive jackpots. The options you have to win big are virtually endless!!"

While CoolCat Casino says the site is "free to play", the sweepstakes casino model encourages future purchases and play with real money via a loophole whereby customers are directed to use virtual coins. Many of these sweepstakes, or social free-to-play casinos, advertise heavily all across Michigan via television commercials. Again, it is unclear if CoolCat did so at this time.

Casinos like BetDSI and XBet operate offshore where they are fully licensed to take bets across the globe. These sites do not operate from the U.S. and few, if any, advertise directly to Michigan residents. While still accessible to Michigan residents, a number of these sites no longer offer the state option when registering. Others like Bovada have stopped allowing Michigan residents to register with their site.
