Christie Says Voting Against North Jersey Casinos was ‘Dumb Move’

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - Gov. Christie said it was a "dumb move" when New Jersey voters rejected a referendum to expand casino gambling to northern New Jersey.

The Republican governor spoke Tuesday while co-hosting the "Boomer and Carton" program on New York radio station WFAN.

New Jersey voters last month overwhelmingly rejected a ballot question about authorizing two new casinos in counties near New York City. Christie blamed lobbying efforts by casinos and unions in Atlantic City and New York.

Christie says he believes casino gambling will eventually expand out of Atlantic City, where some gambling and business executives feared new in-state competition could have caused the closure of some of the city's remaining casinos.

Christie also says he thinks the state will have sports gambling next year at Monmouth Park in Oceanport.
