Channing Frye on NBA Apparently Leaking Info About Gambling Scandal: “Trust Within Locker Rooms is at an All-Time Low”
Channing Frye believes there are snitches within the NBA community, perhaps in every organization, as reported by The Ringer on Monday.
Nearly three dozen arrests were made last week tied to a gambling and poker scheme, including high profile names in the NBA such as Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones and Terry Rozier.
Frye made his comments over the podcast “Road Trippin”, drawing chilling parallels to prove his point.
From The Basketball Network:
When Draymond Green punched Jordan Poole in the Golden State Warriors’ practice facility, the footage somehow found its way to TMZ, which raised a question about how easily a media outlet can acquire such confidential information and more importantly, how someone within the team could jeopardize the entire environment by selling it.
“The information that should be in a locker room is escaping that locker room,” Frye said. “You think the guy doing the film doesn’t know? Or he’s not getting hit off by somebody doing bets? The guy who’s just making the minimum on that team. Maybe he’s an intern. The money is so big when it comes to gambling for the NBA, NFL, things like that, even WNBA, that it’s hard to check everyone within your organization.”
Also breaking late Sunday night, Dayton men's basketball announced Sunday night that it is withholding Iona transfer Adam Njie from competition due to "[eligibility] matters that occurred prior to his enrollment at the university." The school says it was notified of the issue by the NCAA. Sources tell Sports Illustrated that Njie’s situation is connected to the ongoing investigation of gambling-related activity in college basketball. It is unclear if Njie is under scrutiny from both the NCAA and federal investigators, or just the NCAA. (source: SI.com)
