William Hill, Great Britain’s biggest bookmaker, has confirmed they ended talks to buy 888.com.

Shares in 888 Holdings plunged in early morning trading Monday as a result of the news.

“Due to a significant difference of opinion on value with a key stakeholder, it has not been possible to reach agreement on the terms of a possible offer and the board of the company has agreed with William Hill to terminate discussions,” 888 said.

Shares in 888 were driven up over 20 per cent last week to 186p after news broke that it was in talks with Hill about a possible takeover.

888 Holdings share price had fallen more than 10 percent by mid afternoon

In other news on the acquisition front, it was revealed that Norway’s GIO had purchased Gaming Innovation Group (GIG) Monday for an amount not immediately disclosed.

GIG is home to Guts.com, a popular Norwegian-based online sports betting site that accepts bets throughout Europe.
