Great news for Atlantic City as New Jersey’s seaside gambling Mecca will now have a direct link to Chicago.  United Airlines began offering direct flights between the USA’s second largest city and Atlantic City this week.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently took over Atlantic City’s under-utilized airport and, in doing so, convinced the 3rd largest airline in the US to start offering flights there.  In addition to the daily flight to and from Chicago, United will offer a round trip flight to and from Houston.

"With new flights come new opportunities — for tourism, business and leisure travel, job growth, and economic stimulation," said Rep. Frank LoBiondo, D-NJ, chair of the House Aviation Subcommittee. "By linking Atlantic City International Airport to United Airlines' two largest hub airports, we're creating an environment for additional positive developments."

The Atlantic City Airport has the capacity to handle up to 300 flights per day but currently only operates 27.

Round trip flights between Atlantic City and Chicago start at around $317.  Houston was going for just under $400 round trip.

The online gambling sector, which launched in New Jersey last November, has the potential to capitalize on the new flights as well.  Those arriving from Chicago and Houston will be able to gamble online from their hotel rooms and even at the airport while awaiting their flight’s departure.
