Russia has begun to block domain names of online gambling companies located both within the country and abroad.

Over a dozen such sites were taken offline in recent days by Roskomnadzor, the federal agency that oversees the media.  Sites affected included 888, Pinnacle Sports and Ladbrokes, among others.

Russia has begun paving the way towards regulation of online gambling within its borders with sports betting already under regulation.  Web poker was expected to follow.
