Norway has signed into law a measure that would prohibit processing of most online gambling transactions.  The law goes into effect the same day as the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in the United States, June 1.  UIGEA policy implementation has already been delayed once and many pundits believe further delays are possible.

Norway's prohibition - entitled Norway's Payment Act - prohibits the processing of payments from businesses outside Norway that are not licensed by the government.

While online gambling companies with a significant presence in Norway have gone on record as saying they do not believe the new act will have much of an impact on their respective businesses, operations themselves have pulled out of Norway.  A number of Internet gambling firms had been based at least partially out of Norway.
