Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury Fight Fills Void Between Super Bowl and March Madness

February 26 is not considered one of the biggest betting days of the year, but such will be the case in 2023 as sportsbooks are already reporting heavy action on the highly anticipated Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury bout.

This one goes off at 2 pm ET as it takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  The main event is slated for around 5 pm ET, though Gambling911.com suggests getting all wagers in prior to 2 pm ET.  Paul is a slight -170 favorite, Fury was coming in at +140.

For sportsbooks, the Paul-Fury fight represented a bonus revenue day for the month of February. It is typically among the most lucrative months for the North American-facing books courtesy of the Super Bowl but the second half of February tends to calm down a bit.  Call it the "Eye of the Storm", that period in between the Super Bowl and March Madness.

"Crazy action on tomorrow's Jake Paul - Tommy Fury fight," Dave Mason of BetOnline was already confirming by Saturday morning.

"To be clear, our traffic is a few times more than the norm on this date compared to past years," observed Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of the Gambling911.com website.  "We do not anticipate a bigger day than the Super Bowl however but still something to celebrate."

O'Brien noted that the fight time is earlier than your usual boxing or UFC event and, because it is on a Sunday as opposed to the typical Saturday for fights, betting action may be muted somewhat.

There is one other issue at play: The limited provider access.

The fight is available on ESPN Plus PPV. The price is $50, above and beyond the ESPN Plus subscription price ($10 per month the stand alone service, or $100 per year). Alternately, you can bundle ESPN Plus with Disney Plus and Hulu starting at $13 per month for the ad-supported plan.  But whether the typical consumer or commercial establishment such as a bar venue opts to do so depends on just how badly folks want to watch this fight.  The majority of sports bars were not planning on showing the Paul-Fury fight prior to Sunday, though it should be noted that some were still adding the service throughout the weekend.  These included a large swath of Buffalo Wild Wings and Twin Peaks stores.
