As part of a compact that gives the state a portion of revenues from new live games, the Harrah’s owned Jackson County Casino began offering live blackjack at 12 tables this past Wednesday.

The 15-year-old casino on Cherokee Tribal land had previously only offered electronic variations of casino games.

The impact will be realized immediately in terms of employment opportunities as 500 new dealers were recently hired bringing the total staff to 2300 people.

Harrah's officials say a good dealer can earn $60,000 in wages and tips.

Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Principal Chief Michel Hicks says he's hopeful the expansion will bring more visitors to the casino.
