Speaking with CalvinAyre.com at last week’s G2E Gaming Summit in Las Vegas, high profile industry attorney Jeff Ifrah said that Judge Michael Shipp should lift the injunction on sports betting.  Will he?  That remains the million dollar question.

“Well I think if you apply the proper legal standard, I think he should lift the injunction. I think that New Jersey has done what DOJ and associate general said it needed to do, which was to repeal the sports betting provision as it applies to sports betting at New Jersey casino and racetracks.”

A hearing on legalized sports betting in the Garden State has been postponed until the end of the month.

The National Basketball Association did a complete 180 last month, suggesting they would welcome sports betting at some point, despite being a part of the New Jersey suit.

Ifrah had a hunch he knows why: “They’ll embrace sports betting when they make a lot money on sports betting and they’re not gonna make a lot of money in sports betting in New Jersey. They’ll make a lot of money on sports betting when it’s national; when they can control it, if they can control all customers; you know who they are. And the customer has only one choice and that’s them. Under that scheme, they’ll embrace it.”
