One-time Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid has said he will make banning Internet gambling a number one priority during his final years in Congress.

Reid announced he will be retiring at the end of his term in 2016.

The Democrat had previously pushed to have online poker legalized at the federal level.

“Online gaming is not good for our country,” Reid told a Vegas radio show last week.

Casino magnate and GOP mega donor Sheldon Adelson is backing legislation that would ban most forms of Web gambling with the exception of horse betting and state lotteries.

Reid hinted that he would support pushing that measure through the Senate should the House of Representatives pass such a ban.
