Ex-NBA Commissioner David Stern Wants Daily Fantasy Sports…. For Horse Racing?

Speaking before the Pan American Conference event for horse racing, former NBA Commissioner David Stern suggested that Thoroughbred racing should start to embrace Daily Fantasy Sports.

“Fantasy is another way to get people interested in your sport and you can go one better than fantasy because with Thoroughbred racing they can make a legal wager anytime they want. Fantasy has demonstrated what we already knew: Americans love to gamble.”

Already, the National Basketball Association has entered into deals with two of Daily Fantasy Sports top firms, DraftKings and FanDuel.

Current NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has taken things a step further by suggesting that the league should incorporate gambling into the games.

Silver wrote an opt-in piece for the New York Times last November.

There is an obvious appetite among sports fans for a safe and legal way to wager on professional sporting events. Mainstream media outlets regularly publish sports betting lines and point spreads.

Stern’s interest in Daily Fantasy Sports has apparently lead him to invest in one such firm.

The former Commish is among those investing in Venice, California-based AlphaDraft.com, which looks to capitalize on the explosive popularity of eSports by offering Daily Fantasy contests on League of Legends events.
