Cyber Criminals Targeting BitCoin

The web currency Bitcoin has come under increasing attacks from cyber thieves.

“It seems like Bitcoin is gaining popularity not only in the computing industry, but in the threat landscape as well," Security firm Trend Micro said in an ominous report last week.

One of its fraud analysts, Maela Angeles, noted the emergence of phishing sites used to target those who patronize the website “Mt. Gox," a popular exchange for Bitcoin.

A similar attack may have compromised a certain Bitcoin account that dropped the price of Bitcoin from $17.5 to cents, Trend Micro added.

Bitcoin and other anonymous Web currencies are being discussed as possible alternatives to funding online gambling accounts.
