Armed masked men rob bookmakers

Two masked men armed with a suspected knife and handgun robbed a bookmakers in Sunderland.

The two went into the William Hill bookmakers in Chester Road, Sunderland, on Saturday evening, threatened two staff members and demanded cash.

It is not known whether the weapons were real or imitation.

Detectives have released a CCTV image in a bid to identify the offenders responsible and are appealing for witnesses.

The pair, who wore dark clothing, made off with a quantity of cash at around 1945 BST on Saturday.

No-one was injured during the incident.
