Nine people were shot with two pronounced dead following a shooting at a Detroit barbershop known for being a gambling den.  The shooting occurred at approximately 6 pm local time at Rockies Barbershop .

The victims were all males, but no ages or names have been released.  The conditions of the surviving seven individuals were not immediately known either.

Police said they were looking for two cars, a black Chevrolet Impala and a white Chevrolet Impala that may have bullet holes in the back.

"I can't even imagine what would cause this type of violence," Detroit Police Chief James Craig said at the scene.

Police spokeswoman Kelly Mine said that details were still sketchy as police were still investigating.  It wasn't clear how many people opened fire either.

According to Miner, two cars pulled up outside the barbershop, and people in the vehicles exchanged gunfire with each other.

"Somehow someone shot into the building, and that's when people rushed out of the building and were running into other area businesses for cover," she said. Miner said both of the dead men were inside the barbershop.

A motive was not yet known.
