A Nigerian man set 6 youths on fire after they were discovered gambling in his back yard.

The incident occurred in the Oko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital of Nigeria.

Ogun State police command, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, advised news media that an accelerant had been poured onto the youths, then they were set ablaze.

Law enforcement advised:  “Information available to us is that the suspect had an argument with the youths before he poured PMS on them at Ago-Oko area.

“For now, we cannot ascertain other circumstances that led to the incident but we have the suspect in our custody and we are working hard to untie what led to it.”

The victims of the incident were identified as Saburi Seteolu, Raheem Bello, Tunde Adesanya, Suleiman Adebesin, Azeez Alabi and Kola Sodehinde.

Four of the victims were admitted at the emergency unit of the General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while others were taken to private hospitals.

An investigation is ongoing and the suspect could face charges.

Gambling in Nigeria is limited to casinos and a national lottery. Illegal gaming operations are found across the Nigerian landscape.  Nigeria recently launched its first legal online casino that features roulette-only games.
