Twitter Map Shows Which Team America is Rooting for in NFL Playoffs

As the NFL Playoffs get underway this weekend, the majority of the United States is rooting for one team to take home the Lombardi Trophy.

The website BetOnline.ag analyzed geo-tagged keyword association Twitter data since Sunday evening when the playoff matchups were set, tracking official fan hashtags for each team in every state.

For example, #BillsMafia (Bills), #ChiefsKingdom (Chiefs), #FlyEaglesFly (Eagles), #GoBolts (Chargers), #GoNiners (49ers), #Skol (Vikings), #TogetherBlue (Giants), #GoHawks (Seahawks), #WhoDey (Bengals), #CowboysNation (Cowboys), #GoBucs (Buccaneers) and #RavensFlock (Ravens).

In total, more than 150,000 tweets were tracked for the study.

As you can see from the map, most regions are fairly predictable given the teams in the playoffs. However, for those states that don't have an NFL team, or have a team not in playoff contention, it's clear they are rooting for the Buffalo Bills, perhaps rallying around the tragic accident Damar Hamlin suffered nearly two weeks ago.

The state breakdown is as follows:

Bills - 24 states

Chiefs - 5 states

Cowboys - 4 states

Eagles - 4 states

Vikings - 3 states

Seahawks - 3 states

Bengals - 2 states

Buccaneers - 1 state

49ers - 1 state

Chargers - 1 state

Giants - 1 state

Ravens - 1 state

The Miami Dolphins did not win any states, not even Florida.
