This past week, Sir Alex Ferguson named the usual suspects among Manchester United’s most feared contenders – Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.  He added one more, Man City.

In past years, Ferguson has dismissed Manchester City as a cash-rich but small club with a “small mentality”.

Tom Close of FootballFanCast.com noted the following:

The real area that they lost points last season was in matches against their title rivals. Out of a potential total of 18 they only picked up 5, two draws with Arsenal and United and a win over Chelsea. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side picked up 10 points in the same fixtures, suggesting that the difference between the two sides in these matches could be crucial. Were Manchester City able to improve in these fixtures this season, they could offer a real test to United’s ability to retain the title.

Man City just acquired Argentina striker Sergio Aguero.  He’ll be paid £200,000 a week.

It is believed to be a record deal of £38million.  The previous Man City record was the Robinho signing at £32.5million.

Aguero is seen as a solid replacement for Carlos Tevez should he leave Manchester City.

Meanwhile, recent signings by Liverpool have Man UTD’s Wayne Rooney worried over their potential.

"I think they will challenge this time," Rooney said this past weekend.

"They have made some really good signings, British players, and under Kenny Dalglish I'm sure they will be trying harder than they ever have done, fighting to be up there.

"They will think they have a chance of winning the title next season."

Rooney also agreed with Ferguson as it relates to Man City being a formidable Premier League club.

"They've obviously got a lot of good players now and they had a big push towards the end of last season," he said.

888.com offered the following Premier League outrights:

Man United 7/4

Chelsea 5/2

Man City 3/1

Arsenal 9/1

Liverpool 10/1
