Western Michigan Odds to Win MAC West 2016: All Teams

Western Michigan is being billed as the team to beat Northern Illinois and Bowling Green to win the 2016 MAC West with odds of +140 that would pay out $140 for every $100 bet.

From Sport On Earth:

The team most capable of dethroning Northern Illinois and Bowling Green in the MAC is Western Michigan. P.J. Fleck went 1-11 in his debut, then climbed to 8-5 each of the past two seasons, going 6-2 in the MAC each time. Fleck's energy has jumpstarted the Broncos, who have out-recruited the rest of the conference. That will show up this season. The Broncos are loaded on offense, with All-MAC QB Zach Terrell, two standout RBs in Jamauri Bogan and Jarvion Franklin and a potential All-American receiver in Corey Davis. They led the MAC in yards per play last year and are poised to do so again. The defense has plenty of room for improvement, but Fleck has been building better depth across the board. With both Northern Illinois and Toledo visiting Kalamazoo and no Bowling Green or Ohio on the regular-season schedule, there's a lot pointing to Western Michigan overtaking the Huskies in the MAC West, and the prediction here is that the Broncos take down Bowling Green in the MAC Championship Game.

It’s all about the head coach, writes Ian McCafferty of Inside NU:

When P.J. Fleck took over as head coach in 2013, Western Michigan was in a strange place. They had seen some success under former head coach Bill Cubit, going to three bowl games, but Cubit was fired after a 4-8 season in 2012. A 32-year-old P.J. Fleck took over the team and promptly went 1-11. However, Fleck hit the recruiting trail hard and has been able to get the best talent in the MAC by a wide margin. It’s at the point now where he’s basically running recruiting circles around the rest of the conference. He followed up his disastrous first year with back to back 8-5 seasons and the school’s first ever bowl win in 2015. Fleck has made a name for himself with his “Row The Boat” moniker and his all around charisma. Just a few weeks ago, Fleck attended Western Michigan practice in full pads and took on his players. In just a few short years, Fleck has become one of the hottest names in coaching, and he will look to keep that momentum going in 2016.
