Tim Tebow 5-Year Deal Doesn't Boost Broncos Odds

The Denver Broncos last year played surprisingly well before imploding the second half of the season.  With the addition of Tim Tebow to the team, expectations are still low being that Tebow is not expected to adjust to the league for at least another year. Heading into August, the Broncos were 7/1 longshots to win the AFC West Division at Sportsbetting.com (see website here).

ESPN sources reported Thursday night that Tebow signed a five-year, $11.25 million contract with $8.7 million guaranteed.

ESPN noted that the two-time national champion from Florida and 25th pick in the NFL draft missed the first three workouts for rookies and selected veterans while his agent, Jimmy Sexton, and general manager Brian Xanders hammered out a deal.

The Broncos starting quarterback remains Kyle Orton, who threw for 3,800 yards last season but played with an injury the second half, requiring Denver’s offense to play more conservatively.

Orton will also have plenty of talented backup including Chris Simms, Tom Brandstater and the Cleveland Browns letdown quarterback Brady Quinn.  Despite all of this, Gambling911.com grades the quarterback situation in Denver a B- at best.

Tebow could play later in the season but we probably won’t see him until some time next year at the earliest. Still, many consider Tebow the best college player ever and he's creating the kind of buzz in the Rockies that John Elway did back in 1983.

In case you were wondering, the Broncos odds of winning the 2011 Super Bowl have been set at 50/1.
