Super Bowl 47 Vegas Odds: Sportsbooks Backing 49ers

With the Super Bowl 47 Vegas odds settling in at San Francisco -3.5, sportsbook managers are hoping for the favorite to win but not by more than a field goal.  (note:  betting on the Super Bowl is available online at CarbonSports.com, which was giving new customers up to $250 in FREE CASH here)

"Our worst case scenario is going to be a Niners win and the over, so we will probably be rooting for any scenario except for that," Jay Rood, vice president of the race and sports book at MGM Resorts, told Reuters in a telephone interview.

"A Niners win by a field goal, and for the game to stay under, would probably be the dream for all the bookmakers."

Vegas is expected to beat the record handle observed when Pittsburgh played Seattle back in 2006.

"It's a west coast team, the Niners are pretty popular in northern Nevada and Colin Kaepernick is creating quite a bit of excitement because people are able to do a lot of exciting proposition bets with him," said Mike Lawton, a senior research analyst for the Nevada Gaming Control Board. "So I would say I would be surprised if we did not beat the record."

The online sportsbooks are anticipating reduced action due to the inability of those living in Maryland to place wagers over the Web.  Most books no longer accept new customers from the state while a handful do allow existing customers to still bet.

On the other hand, California represents the largest player pool in the US and perhaps the entire world when it comes to North American facing online sportsbooks.
