Super Bowl 46 Game Line Still 80 Percent -3

As of Saturday afternoon, just 24 hours before game time, the Super Bowl 46 line was coming in at New England Patriots -3 at just over 80 percent of the sportsbooks worldwide, including Las Vegas.  (Find hundreds of Super Bowl betting props at Bookmaker.eu, serving the wagering public since 1985)

And with just shy of 60 percent of the betting action coming in on the underdog Giants, it’s no wonder why the oddsmakers were trending more towards the higher number.  Fearing the game will fall on the -3, bookmakers will be reluctant to move the line above the number 3 as so-called “sharps” could hit both sides of the game.

In Vegas this weekend, hundreds of thousands of visitors were in town for the Super Bowl, traditionally Sin City’s busiest time of the year.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is projecting this year’s showdown pitting the New York Giants against the New England Patriots will bring in the most people and the most dollars since 2008.  286,000 people were expected to descend upon Vegas this weekend.

It is a fair assessment that a good percentage of these individuals will be placing wagers on the Super Bowl.

“I think this kind of justifies the broader recovery we’ve been seeing in our convention industry and our tourism overall,” said Jeremy Handel, LVCVA spokesman. “We’ve been seeing that recovery for the last year and a half, and this just supports that.”,

“About 62 percent of our tickets are on the Giants so far. But the bigger plays have been on the Patriots,” said Jay Kornegay, director of the sports book at the LVH, in an interview with the Las Vegas Sun. “This is the one event that the public, small money outweighs the sharp, big money.”

One of the few Vegas properties offering the Patriots at -2.5 was the Mirage.

J.J. McCarthy Drafted Number 3 Odds to Patriots

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?
