The top Premier League goal scorers for the 2011-2012 season are expected to be Robin Van Persie of Arsenal and Carlos Tevez of Manchester City, at least according to the oddsmakers at William Hill.  The UK’s biggest bookmaker has both footballers listed at 7 to 1 odds

Van Persie is a striker for Arsenal.  He has over 50 caps and has scored 21 goals for the Netherlands and made his senior international debut back in 2005.  Van Persie has made regular appearances on the injury list over the years, however.

Tevez has made 59 appearances for the Argentina national team, scoring 13 goals.  He is the captain of Man City.

Tevez this week denied any knowledge of a potential betting scam that the Argentine may have inadvertently been dragged into last season involving a game between Manchester City and Greek side Aris.  A phone conversation involving another player reportedly implicates Tevez as someone who would be “approached” to participate in the scam.

What affect such distractions might have on Tevez’ regular season play is yet to be determined.

Tevez also wants out of Man City, but no other clubs appear to want in on his £50m and his £200,000-a-week wage demands, so expect the Argentine to stay put in Manchester City for at least another year.

Some bookmakers are now offering “any other team” with 6/4 odds while Man City was still the favorite at 1/2.
