Pennington Out The Season: How About That Miami Dolphins Under?
Reports began circulating late Monday that Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington will be out the rest of the season due to injury. Pennington has been plagued by injuries throughout his career and is generally seen as a "liability" despite his stellar performance last year.
Perhaps the only folks celebrating are those who had the Dolphins and the UNDER 7 ½ 2009 regular season win total.
"Here is one vote for the Under, with 7-9 season for disappointed Dolphins fans," Gambling911.com's Mary Montgomery may have correctly predicted well before the start of the 2009 season.
Since becoming a starter in the Big Apple in 2002, Pennington has averaged 15 starts in the even-numbered years, in the three odd-numbered years, less than seven.
Pennington was initially diagnosed with a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder and the Dolphins expect him to miss the rest of the season, sources familiar with the injury told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.
Pennington will seek a second opinion from orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews, who has performed two shoulder surgeries on the quarterback.
"We don't have a comment, because the evaluation process is still ongoing," team spokesman Harvey Greene said.
Pennington has already had surgery on the same shoulder in 2004 and 2005.
