The all-elusive safety has had some terrific value in recent Super Bowls.  The payout is $1000 for every $100 bet depending on the sportsbook should a safety be scored.

From 2009 to 2014 there was a safety scored in practically every Super Bowl during that stretch.

Coming into Super Bowl 60, there hasn't been a safety scored in 12 years.  Hard to believe after that hot stretch.

Super Bowl Safety History

  • Super Bowl IX (1975): First-ever safety (Steelers over Vikings).
  • Super Bowl X (1976): Second safety (Steelers over Cowboys).
  • Super Bowl XX (1986): Bears sack Patriots QB.
  • Super Bowl XXI (1987): Giants sack Broncos QB Elway.
  • Super Bowl XXV (1991): First team to score a safety but lose (Bills vs. Giants).
  • Super Bowl XLIII (2009): First safety in 18 years (Cardinals vs. Steelers).
  • Super Bowl XLVI (2012): Patriots called for intentional grounding.
  • Super Bowl XLVII (2013): Ravens take an intentional safety in final seconds.
  • Super Bowl XLVIII (2014): First play from scrimmage (Seahawks vs. Broncos
