Northwestern vs. Wisconsin Spread

The Northwestern vs. Wisconsin College Football spread had settled in at around -23 in favor of the home team Badgers by Saturday afternoon.  Despite the steep price on this game, nearly 85 percent of those betting the spread were backing Wisconsin here.  The 58 total was getting nearly 95 percent action on the OVER.  Few online sportsbooks were offering a money line on this game.

Wisconsin is currently ranked number 7 in the nation.   The team has put up 131 points and 695 yards rushing against Indiana and Michigan and has won six straight games, scoring at least 31 points in each to set up a chance to at least share the Big Ten title.

If Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin all win on Saturday, they'll split the Big Ten title. The tiebreaker for the conference's spot in the BCS will go to the highest ranked team in the BCS standings, which has been Wisconsin (7th) followed by Ohio State (8th) and Michigan State (10th).

"We're in a great position headed into Northwestern to put ourselves right where we want to be," defensive end J.J. Watt said after the 48-28 win over Michigan on Saturday.

Amazingly, though Wisconsin was getting 85 percent of the betting action on the spread, they were not among the top 10 most wagered on teams in College Football this Saturday.  Michigan State and Ohio State both held those honors.

Let’s look at some important betting trends for this game to determine Wisconsin’s chances.

Northwestern has covered 5 of the last 7 in this series, though they have essentially split the last 4 seasons.

The Wildcats are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a road underdog.

The Wildcats are 17-4 ATS in their last 21 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game.

The Wildcats are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games following a double-digit loss at home.  They are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games following a Straight Up loss.  All that being said, they are just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points.

Northwestern is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

The Wildcats are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in November.

Northwestern is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 conference games.  The Badgers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 conference games

The Wildcats are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall.

The Badgers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 conference games.

The Badgers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a Straight Up win.

The Badgers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
