NFL Lockout Meeting in Chicago

A critical meeting in Chicago between players and owners could help bring an end to the NFL lockout.   The meeting begins today (Tuesday June 21).

While much of the news was positive last week, smaller market owners expressed concern over long term agreements hurting their bottom line.  As a result, the NFL lockout now appears to be less about owners vs. players and more about big market owners vs. small market owners.

The small market franchises include the likes of Cincinnati, Buffalo and Jacksonville among others.

"If [Goodell] can get them united at this meeting, then I think you'll see a deal in relatively short order," a league source said Monday. "If there's unity out of this, mid-July wouldn't be unrealistic [for an agreement]."

The Chicago NFL lockout meeting is likely to stretch into Wednesday with no formal vote expected.

A new collective bargaining agreement must receive support of 24 of the 32 owners to be ratified.

This week the 15-year-old betting firm released odds on NFL Defensive Rookie performances

Defensive rookies are going to have things a lot easier than offensive rookies this season considering how short the offseason might be. That being said, there is a ton of defensive talent that will enter and partake in the NFL betting festivities this season, and we here at BetDSI.com have all of the ins and outs for the players that you should be backing!

Von Miller, Denver Broncos ( +500 )- There's a reason that Miller was the No. 2 pick in the draft. Remember that the Broncos are rebuilding right now defensively, but they are going to be getting back Elvis Dumervil this year as well. These two could be a real nightmare for opposing offensive lines. We know that we are going to see a heck of a lot more protection being rolled the way of Dumervil at the outset of the season, and Miller, who has an incredible motor, could be the big time beneficiary. Double digits worth of sacks isn't out of the question for the former member of the Texas A&M Aggies, and if he can do that, Miller is sure to be an NFL betting possibility for the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Patrick Peterson, Arizona Cardinals ( +500 )- There isn't more of a slam dunk in this draft than the fact that Peterson is the most talented player entering the league this year. The defensive back has all of the talent in the world, and he is coming into a situation where he gets to play alongside a great secondary as well. Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt knows the importance of improving this defense to go with his offense, which until Kurt Warner retired, was one of the most lethal in the league. Peterson has tremendous ball hawking skills, and he is going to be a force to be reckoned with at the next level as well. NFL betting fans may want to make it a point to remember Peterson's name because they’ll be hearing it get called a ton this season; he very well could be the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Jimmy Smith, Baltimore Ravens ( +800 )- The danger with former Colorado Buffalo Smith is that he won't end up playing enough plays on this talented defense to be able to win this award. We have to remember that Dominique Foxworth is going to be back on the field this year after an injury plagued season in which he didn't play a single snap, and there are always plenty of cover men in black and purple aside from that. Smith is a huge talent though, and the Ravens rarely miss on players in the NFL Draft like this one. Just look at Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Haloti Ngata, and the likes, all of which came through the Draft. Smith has a solid chance of being the Defensive Rookie of the Year and beating the cashing in on these future NFL betting lines.

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?
