NFL Betting – Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping the field conditions at Estadio Azteca hold up this season.

Last year the Chiefs had a Monday night game in Mexico on the schedule, but the contest was moved north of the border due to poor playing conditions. The Chiefs went out and lost, 54-51, to the other LA team in an epic battle. There’s a lot more riding on this Week 11 tilt with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs lead the congested AFC West by a game over Oakland with the Chargers just two games back. Despite last week’s loss to the Raiders, the Bolts are 8-4 SU and 9-3 ATS in November games since the 2016 season.

Odds Analysis

In what is a neutral site game the Chiefs hit the board as a 3-point favorite and they were quickly wagered up a point to -4. That spike likely has something to do with Patrick Mahomes claiming he’s feeling better now than he has at any time since Week 1. That’s a scary thought for the Bolts’ defense. Both clubs are coming off frustrating losses last week and have a bye after this so you can expect them to leave it all on the field. A healthy Mahomes has influenced the total as well, with that number spiking to its current 52 after opening at 49.

Kansas City Chiefs

The club survived for two games without Mahomes, gaining a split with Matt Moore running the show. The Chiefs went over the total in a loss to Green Bay and a win over Minnesota, and they continued that trend last week with the reigning MVP back on the field. The Chiefs lost outright to the Titans, 35-32, as a 5-point favorite, but they cashed the over for a third straight game and for the seventh time in 10 games.

While the Chiefs have scored at a rate of 28.4 points per game, it’s only gotten them a 6-4 record. Since starting the year with four straight wins they’ve gone 2-4 SU and ATS since and they are feeling heat in the division race with the Raiders close behind. In his first game back after missing two with a knee injury, Mahomes threw for 446 yards and three touchdowns on 36 of 50 passing. Ahead of this week’s matchup Mahomes said he’s feeling better physically than he has the opening week of the season. He looked good against the Titans and if KC is to become the scoring machine it was last season better numbers in the red zone will help.

Last year the Chiefs had a red zone touchdown percentage of 73. This season that number has dipped to just under 47 percent. They did go 2 for 3 in the red zone last week, but that was misleading with three fields and a turnover on downs when drives stalled inside the Tennessee 25-yard line. The 22nd ranked defense was dealt a blow with the loss of sack leader Emmanuel Ogbah.

Los Angeles Chargers

This is about the time the Chargers put things together and make their late season push for a playoff spot. However, it’s hard to imagine that happening given the up and down play of Philip Rivers. A spotless game two weeks ago produced an upset win over the Packers, but Rivers had problems last week in a loss to the Raiders. Two early interceptions led to 10 Oakland points and the Bolts were in a hole just nine minutes into the contest.

With Rivers and a strong supporting cast, the Chargers should be better offensively. But, they have yet to score more than 30 points in a game and they average just 20.7 per contest. And things might be getting worse for the Bolts with offensive linemen Sam Tevi out with a knee injury and Russell Okung doubtful with a groin injury.

Melvin Gordon will get a chance to show off in the run game while taking heat off his quarterback. Gordon rushed for 108 yards last week against the Raiders, his first 100-yard game of the season. Meanwhile, the Chiefs own the NFL’s second-worst run defense with over 148 yards allowed per game. Gordon and Austin Ekeler will have to produce on the ground for the Chargers to come away with a victory.

Playing at elevation in Mexico City we can correlate results from games in Denver to get an idea of how these teams play. The Chiefs are 3-0 SU and ATS averaging 28 points under Mahomes at Mile High. The Bolts haven’t been as good. And with Mahomes feeling better after his injury scare, it’s hard to go against him. So I won’t.

NFL Score Prediction: Kansas City 33, Los Angeles 24
