Nebraska Cornhuskers 2009 Betting Odds

The Nebraska Cornhuskers 2009 betting odds were listed at +225 to win the Big 12 Conference and +4500 odds to win the 2010 BCS Championship for a payout potential of $4500 on every $100 bet.

Bad news for Cornhuskers fans.  The oddsmakers have Nebraska a favorite to win UNDER 8 ½ games at -200.  The good news for gamblers is that Nebraska would pay out almost $200 for every $100 bet if they were to win 9 games or more.  Compare that with Florida, a team that is favored to win more than 11 2009 regular season games.

Marc Lawrence's Playbook points out that Bo Pelini's personality is highly infectious and it appears to have reached pandemic proportions at Nebraska.  Last year, a 127-YPG defensive improvement was witnessed, highlighted by a rush ‘D' that was the most improved in the nation, resulting in a 9-win effort, the most by a first year coach in 2008.

The problem:  The Cornhuskers are playing eight teams that were .500 or better last year.  There are, however, no back-to-back road games on the schedule.

A week to watch will be their matchup on the road in Missouri.  The visitor in this series are 1-5.

Scouts.com notes that this isn't a good enough team to win the national title, so unless there's a major shocker, this isn't going to be the year Nebraska returns to elite of the elite status. However, with the great defense, decent promise on offense, and one of the nation's best kickers in Alex Henery, there's no reason this can't be the year Nebraska gets back to the Big 12 title game and is more than just a speed bump against the South champion. It might take a little while longer, and everyone will have to be patient, but the program is moving forward.

Remember:  The Nebraska Cornhuskers odds to win OVER 8 ½ games was listed at +190 at SBG Global with the payout potential of $190 for every $100 bet.  It's hard to fathom, but those are some enticing odds.
