Manchester City won its 2013 opener against Chelsea Sunday by a final score of 3-2, all goals scored during the second half.

"It was a good performance," City coach Roberto Mancini said, acknowledging the advantage of having an extra man.

"It had an impact on the game. It is impossible to say 'no' because 11 versus 11 is different. But we played better than Chelsea, played better football."

On Sunday it was announced that Man City had signed Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell for a reported fee of around £12 million

A statement on the Everton website read: "Jack Rodwell has completed his transfer to Manchester City. The midfielder has joined the Premier League champions for an undisclosed fee after Everton accepted a bid on Sunday. He underwent a medical and agreed personal terms with City, penning a five-year contract."
