Man City had odds of 2/1 of landing Alexis Sanchez (nicknamed El Niño Maravilla)as part of the Premier League summer transfer window betting specials. Barcelona was listed with 10/11 odds, paying just under even.  Manchester United was a very close 5/2.  (Transferencias Odds 2011 – Alexis Sanchez – Man City 2/1, Barcelona 10/11)

While Barcelona is widely believed to be close to signing the Chilean forward, Man City and Man United are both very much in the running, and it will all come down to what a club is willing to pay for Sanchez.

Man City is reported to have offered the highest bid, however, Barcelona is tacking on some sweeteners with money plus players deal.

Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo was quoted in the Sun as saying £44m is not enough for Sanchez.  €50 million might do it, he said.

“I have no doubt that if he stayed with us for another year he would be worth even more than that.

"He's the best player of his generation.

"He is like Cristiano Ronaldo when he was 22.

"We know when we have a diamond - Alexis Sanchez is one."

Sanchez played an integral part in Chili’s success during the 2010 World Cup where his team won against both Honduras and Switzerland before ultimately being eliminated by the World Cup champions Spain.  More importantly, Sanchez helped Chili get to the World Cup.

His final tally was three goals in 12 games in the South American WCQ as Chile placed second in CONMEBOL and thus qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"The truth is that Manchester City are making an offer which is more generous that that from Barcelona," Pozzo said. "This is not going into a fight, but if Cesc is worth €40 million and Neymar and Sergio Aguero €45 million, I say Alexis Sanchez is worth €50 million. Since I am the one who puts the price, well, that's what there is.
