New York has just gotten stronger with the addition of safety Ed Reed, who was released earlier in the week by the Houston Texans.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan immediately ran to general manager John Idzik's office to make a pitch for the nine-time Pro Bowl safety.
"It's only a rumor that I pulled a hamstring," Ryan said jokingly Thursday, recalling his hurry-up offensive.
Ryan once claimed that Reed was "the best safety that's ever played” and insists he can still play despite being released by Houston for low production.
16 tackles and had zero interceptions or pass breakups in seven games. He was waived after making critical comments about the coaching staff.
After watching tapes of those seven games, Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman claimed Reed was a “victim of circumstances”.
