Cowboys-Jets Sunday Night Game

The Cowboys-Jets Sunday Night game promises to be a heavily wagered on event with a line hovering between -5.5 and -6 favoring New York.  This one opened at -3.5.  This game was getting fairly evenly distributed action.

There is not a whole lot of historical or recent trends that give either Dallas or New York an edge in this game.

The Cowboys are 5-0 Against The Spread in their last 5 games as an underdog.

The Jets are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games as a home favorite of 3.5-10.0.

For many, this game will be especially symbolic, with 9/11 commemoration planned for the pre-game and half time.

“The atmosphere,” Jets receiver Plaxico Burress said, “is going to be as close to a Super Bowl as you can get…the fans, first Sunday night game of the year, against America’s Team, 9/11 and all those things. It’s going to be fun to play in. You have to really cherish playing in games of this magnitude.”

For sports bettors, there are a few things to look for in trying to gain an edge.

The Jets rush offense last season ranked 4th and it’s not likely to diminish any time soon.  New York had an average of 148.4 yards per game.  The Cowboys rush defense is likely to have a tough time.  Likewise, the Jets defense stands to take full advantage of a Dallas front line made up heavily of rookies.

Miles Austin is expected to play for Dallas on Sunday but is coming off an injury and likely will not be at 100 percent.
