The Chiefs vs. Broncos point spread had Denver as a -9 home favorite, making Kansas City the first 9-0 team ever to be made an underdog, and a big one at that. They are also the first NFL team to open 9-0 after posting the worst record the previous season. 70 percent of those betting this game early on were backing Kansas City at WagerWeb.com. This line was moving into -7.5 territory approaching the weekend.
Denver, of course, was the odds-on favorite to win the 2014 Super Bowl and come into this game with a single loss.
Even with Kansas City a pretty lousy team in recent years, they still managed to win 4 out of 10 against Denver. Two of those were won by Kansas City on the road.
The big news coming into this game is Peyton Manning’s ailing right ankle. Manning was back out at practice Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday.
''He practiced a good bit and looked like he was doing the things he needs to do for us,'' interim head coach Jack Del Rio said.
Assuming Peyton is at 100 percent, or even 80 percent, the Chiefs could be in some serious trouble here. Manning is 8-0 against the AFC West since joining Denver and 9-1 in his career versus the Chiefs.
