Buffalo Bills 2009/2010 Odds

The Buffalo Bills 2009/2010 odds can be summed up like this from Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald:  "If (Terrell) Owens can truly provide an offensive spark, this might be the one time in his career that he has added the missing ingredient rather than the poison."

Most pundits predict the Bills to finish 4th in a very tough AFC East division.

Oddsmakers have the Bills winning OVER 7 ½ regular season games in 2009 (the UNDER pays $120 for every $100 bet).   The Bills are 15/2 long shots to win the AFC East.  Their 2010 Super Bowl odds were an even longer 45/1.

Quarterback Trent Edwards has the talent to succeed but he hasn't always been surrounded by the same.  This year will be different and Edwards will need to work on his consistency.

The offensive line is the weak link in Buffalo.  Only two players will return this season.  Among the changes include replacing two once highly touted veterans with two highly drafted rookies.

The defensive line is yet another weak link.  Expect the Bills defense over all to be aggressive nonetheless as coordinator Perry Fewell continues to employ the heavy pass rush.

On Friday, the Bills announced contract talks had significantly improved with rookie first-round pick Aaron Maybin, leading to expectations a deal could be reached soon.

"They're working on a deal and they're getting pretty close," a person familiar with negotiations told The Associated Press on Friday morning. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because negotiations were still taking place with the defensive end, who was selected 11th overall out of Penn State.

The new round of talks come after the two sides reached an impasse this week, raising concerns that Maybin won't be ready for the Bills regular-season opener at New England on Sept. 14.

Through Thursday, Maybin has missed 23 practices and two preseason games since training camp opened July 25. The Bills, on Wednesday, left camp in suburban Rochester and begun practicing at their Orchard Park headquarters.
