Arsenal v Liverpool Betting Odds – 20 August 2011

What should be the best game of the new Premier League season – Arsenal v Liverpool – featured betting odds of 5/4 9/4 and 21/10.  Some online bookmakers were offering more friendly fractions of 2/1 for Liverpool.  This game goes off 20 August 2011.  It is the first to feature two of the top 6 Premier League teams facing off against one another.

Neither club looked impressive this past weekend as their respective games both resulted in draws.

Arsenal failed to score in its 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

The game included Ivory Coast striker Gervinho being sent off after slapping Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton, who attempted to grab Gervinho’s shirt and pull him up from the ground.  Barton fell over theatrically.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger questioned whether the referee had even seen the incident and said both players should have received the same punishment.

"Gervinho didn't deserve a red card. He (referee Peter Walton) gives a red to the two or a yellow to the two," he told ESPN television.

"The referee has not seen it and the linesman has not seen it properly. I'm 100 percent sure the referee didn't see the incident. I would like to see who made this decision."

Liverpool, meanwhile, kicked off the new season with a 1-1 draw against Sunderland.

Early betting for Arsenal v Liverpool had the later team getting around 65 percent of the action and Arsenal around 29 percent.  The draw was getting closer to 5 percent of the action despite this past weekend’s results for both clubs.

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?
