The AFC title game is set, and for a 60th straight season we will not have an all-Wild Card Super Bowl. The losses by Buffalo and Houston insured that.

Much of the NFL talk during the playoffs has been about the nine head coach openings (now down to seven), and for good reason. Good coaching matters.

The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots are evidence of that.

Sean Payton was dealt a tough hand with Russell Wilson’s albatross of a contract and a loss of draft picks. Mike Vrabel took over a franchise that was 8-26 in the previous two seasons.

And yet here we are, with both teams 14-3 in the regular season and now playing to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

We have one major snag in this matchup. Broncos QB Bo Nix fractured his ankle in the OT win against the Bills’, and now Jarret Stidham and his four career starts will be under center for the Broncos next weekend.

Ironically, he was drafted by the New England Patriots and was the QB at Auburn before Bo Nix.

The oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag have opened the AFC title game lines

Note: The lookahead line for this game was Denver -1. So, Nix’s injury moved this line five points.

The NFC title game is set, and we get to see a third matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams.

Each team won at home, with the Rams winning by two points and the Seahawks winning by one.

The Broncos were 8/1 going into the weekend. Despite four more teams getting eliminated, the Broncos Super Bowl odds have fallen to 11/1.
