World Cup Ties Create Huge Boost for Sportsbook BetOnline

The sixth day of the 2026 FIFA World Cup was coming to a close on Tuesday, but the first 16 matches had already created havoc at the sportsbooks.

The draw bet, which is not nearly as popular as wagering on the favorite or underdog, has created a massive profit margin for the books.

So far, eight of the 16 World Cup matches have ended in ties, including all four fixtures Monday.

"The USMNT match Saturday was BetOnline's largest single loss for a soccer game in the 25-year history of the company," Betonline Brand Manager Dave Mason said. "That said, all of that loss and then some was recouped yesterday with every game ending in a tie. The draw is our best result in 90% of soccer matches, so Monday ended up being the company’s single-best day in terms of soccer profit."

Mason tweeted Monday night that placing a $10 parlay bet on four draws the day prior would've netted $9,405, so you can see how unlikely that result was.

There have been some notable futures odds movement following the first 16 matches as well.

The largest, of course, was the USA's adjustment from 100/1 odds to take home the cup to 45/1 odds, currently. BetOnline boasted the best odds in the world by a wide margin going into the tourney, but the numbers are now around market level.

Here are some moves we wanted to highlight (Spain only went from 5/1 to 11/2 after their 0-0 draw, in case you were wondering):

  • USA 100/1 to 45/1
  • Mexico 80/1 to 55/1
  • Canada 200/1 to 250/1
  • Portugal from 10/1 to 8/1
  • Brazil from 9/1 to 12/1
  • Netherlands 25/1 to 19/1
  • Cape Verde still 2000/1 (no change!)

Speaking of Spain and Cape Verde, that match finished in a draw with just 4% of the action on that outcome
