According to Matthew Burgess and Marco Dion, London-based analysts with JPMorgan's equity quantitative analysis team, Team England will win the FIFA World Cup 2010.

"Whilst our model points towards Brazil as being the strongest team to take part in the World Cup, our World Cup Wall Chart indicates that thanks to the actual fixtures determined by the schedule, we believe England will be the winner of the 2010 World Cup," Burgess and Dion said in a report released this past week.

Coming from London, one might wonder about a certain amount of bias.  But according to Bloomberg, JPMorgan applied a mathematical model, built to screen and identify stocks, to soccer. It used data including bookmakers' odds, official FIFA world rankings, previous results and the match schedule to predict a winner.

Colleague UBS Wealth Management Research  correctly predicted Italy would win the 2006 World Cup and last month forecast that Brazil will win this year's tournament.

Sportsbetting.com had England with 4/1 odds and Brazil with 2/1 odds of winning the World Cup 2010.
