Germany

Thomas Muller opened the scoring after 11 minutes and it was on from there as Germany scored four goals in six minutes to romp to a 7-1 win over Brazil, handing the hosts a crushing loss. Miroslav Klose broke Ronaldo’s record for World Cup goals while Toni Kroos and Andre Schurrle both scored twice and Sami Khedira added one for the Germans, who hit four of their goals between the 23rd and 29th minutes. Kroos, Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger absolutely dominated the Brazil midfield and that was the key as the hosts were often let chasing shadows, but the Germans will be slightly disappointed that they allowed Oscar to score in the 90th minute, and their defense has looked shaky at times during this World Cup.

Argentina

Keeper Sergio Romero was the difference as he stopped two penalties to lead his team to the victory after a turgid 120 minutes of open play in which Argentina couldn’t get going at all. Captain Lionel Messi had his worst game of the tournament as the Netherlands man-marked him and never let him get any space, and he didn’t get much help from his teammates. Luckily, their defense held up and Romero sealed the deal with his play in the shootout. It definitely wasn’t a vintage performance from Argentina, but they did what they had to do to put themselves in the final, and now they can win the World Cup on the soil of their biggest rivals, which would make this the worst tournament in Brazil’s history.

Total

This game could be cagey as the stakes have never been higher and we saw Argentina be content to sit back and defense against the Netherlands, so they will probably do the same to Germany. The Germans are very patient and this game will only open up if they score first, which will draw Argentina out of their shell, but outside of Messi, they have struggled to put forth any chances and the Germans will watch him diligently. Don’t expect buckets of goals here.

Prediction: Germany, under
